Criteria 1: JEE Main 2026 Performance - Candidates must be amongst the top 2.5 lakh successful candidates in the JEE (Main) exam.
Criteria 2: Age—Candidates need to be born on or after 1 October 2001 in order to apply for JEE Advanced 2026. However, candidates from PwD, ST, and SC are given a five-year relaxation. Hence, these candidates need to be born on or after 1 October 1996.
Criteria 3: Attempt to write the exam - Candidates are usually allowed to take the JEE Advanced exam for a maximum of two consecutive years.
Criteria 4: Class 12th exam appearance - Candidates need to appear for the class 12th or equivalent exam for the first time in 2025 or 2026. Moreover, candidates need to have studied subjects such as Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics. Candidates who attempted to write class 12 or equivalent exam in 2024 or prior are not allowed to appear for JEE Advanced 2026. However, an exception can be if a one-time special measure is provided.
Criteria 5: Previous admission at IIT - Candidates whose admission at any IIT was cancelled (regardless of the reason) after joining are not allowed to attempt JEE Advanced 2026. However, candidates who were admitted to a preparatory course in any IIT in 2025 for the first time can attempt to write the JEE Advanced 2026 exam.
